If The Foundations Be Destroyed

Psalm 11:3

 

Introduction: 

 

A.  The most important part of any structure is the foundation upon which it stands.  It matters not how well built or how beautifully constructed, if the foundation is flawed, the structure will not stand the test of time. 

 

B.  Our spiritual foundations are the same.  If they are not built right, that which we build will not stand.  Psalms 11:3  If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

 

1.  Everything we have ever known that was foundational is being attacked and destroyed.

 

2.  I love living and I love America but I do not like the changes that have occurred in my short lifetime.

 

3.  I do not require everyone to believe the way that I believe but, if you do not agree with what I believe, please leave this poor old ex-coal miner alone! 

 

4.  Don’t attack what I believe because I still stand in the old ways and the old paths.  They are the foundations upon which I rely upon and where I stand.

 

C.  We often refer to Jeremiah 6:16 which reads, “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”

 

1.  The Old Paths (by old, I do not mean the last century) are the well-trodden, well-worn paths of our spiritual forefathers.

 

2.  Those who walk in these Old Paths have always been the minority as is seen in Jeremiah which was written 2500 years ago or so.  The prophet Jeremiah, through inspiration, said to stand, to see, to ask, to walk therein but the people said, “We will not walk therein.”

 

3.  To forsake those Old Paths is to lose “rest for your souls.”  That rest is when we adhere to paths of truth and assurance.  I know that, if I follow the Bible, I will be alright!

 

HERE ARE SOME FOUNDATIONS THAT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE ARE RIGHT!

 

1.  The Foundation Of Our Faith, the Bible - Jude 3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

2 Peter 1:19-21  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

 

Everything that we believe, stand for, and stand upon as believers is found in the foundation of the Bible.  If we crack that foundation, we destroy our faith, and what can the righteous do?

 

2.  The Foundation Of Our Salvation, Jesus Christ – 1 Peter 2:6  Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

 

Isaiah 28:16  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

 

                    a.  It Is A Laid Stone – I lay in Zion (Calvary)

 

                    b.  It Is A Foundation Stone – Jesus Christ

 

                    c.  It Is A Tried Stone – The Salvation Of God Works

 

                    d.  It Is A Precious Stone – To the Child Of God

 

                    e.  It Is A Sure Stone – No Wise Case Out, Shall Be Saved

 

1 John 2:25  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

 

Make Sure Your Faith Is In Christ Alone!

 

3.  The Foundation Of God’s Church - Matthew 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

 

Ephesians 2:19-22  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

 

a.  Teach your children to have confidence in the Church.

 

b.  Teach your children to have confidence in the Pastor.

 

c.  Teach your children to obey the preaching of God’s Word.

 

Make Sure We Keep Christ The Pre-eminent One In The Church!  It Is His!

 

4.  The Foundation Of The Home – Psalms 127:1  Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

 

a.  The home is the strength of America.

         

b.  The home is the strength of the Church.

         

1)  Keep your homes centered around God’s Word.

 

2)  Keep your home centered around God’s Order.

 

a)  Husbands obey the Lord.                

         

b)  Wives, obey your husbands.

 

c)  Children, obey your parents.
