The Majesty Of God

Temple Baptist Church - 9-13-2015
1 Chronicles 29:11-12

Introduction:

A. This morning, I want to look at another aspect of the David’s praise for the Lord.  The Majesty of God!  One song writer wrote these words, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is thy name in all the earth!”

MAJESTY - The greatness and dignity of a sovereign.  The sovereignty and power of God.  Supreme authority or power.  A royal personage.   Royal dignity of bearing or aspect; grandeur.  Stately splendor; magnificence, as of style or character.

B.  When I think of “Majesty,” I think of royalty, power, wealth, and social status.  A few years back, there was some controversy because Michele Obama “touched” the Queen of England.  Queen Elizabeth has been the reigning monarch of England for many years and is both loved and respected throughout the world.

C.  The Queen of Sheba came to see Solomon and all of his glory:

1 Kings 10:4-9  And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom, and the house that he had built,  5  And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.  6  And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom.  7  Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard.  8  Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.  9  Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.

Matthew 12:42  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

D.  There is One to whom she will bow and confess that He is Lord to the glory of God the Father.  The Bible declares that God is not only above but “Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.”

E.  As Dr. S.M. Lockridge put it, “He is indescribable!”  So, forgive me for my finite mind, limited vocabulary, and sinful personage that cannot properly explain or describe His majesty!

Psalms 104:1  Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

Psalms 145:5  I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

Psalms 145:12  To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

F.  I thank the Lord that, many years ago, I bowed my heart and gladly bow my knees today to the most wonderful Person in the universe.

1.  God declares that all shall bow - Isaiah 45:23  I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

2.  In this life, many should bow but do not - Philippians 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

3  In eternity, all shall bow to God - Romans 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

G.  The Lord is Majestic in so many ways that I could not mention all but here are a few.

1.  The Majesty of His Person

a.  He is Majestic because of who He is.

Psalms 24:7-10  Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.  (8)  Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.  (9)  Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.  (10)  Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

1 Timothy 6:15  Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Revelation 19:15-16  And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  (16)  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

b.  He is Majestic because of what He possesses.

Genesis 14:22  And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

Psalms 24:1  The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

c.  He is Majestic because of where He dwells.

Isaiah 6:1-4  In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.  (2)  Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.  (3)  And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.  (4)  And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

1 Timothy 6:16  Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Psalms 104:1-2  Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.  (2)  Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

2.  The Majesty of His sovereignty.
a.  The Angels Worship - Revelation 4:8  And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

b.  The Devils Worship - Luke 8:28  When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.

c.  The Saved Worship - Revelation 7:9-10  After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;  10  And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

d.  The Creatures Worship - Revelation 5:13  And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

2.  The Majesty of His authority - Job 37:22-23  Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.  23  Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

a.  Nature Is Subject To Him - Matthew 8:27  But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! Luke 10:17  And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

b.  Devils Are Subject To Him - Luke 10:17  And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Isaiah 57:15  For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
