Three Visible Things of God - Part 2

Temple Baptist Church - 11-12-2023

Psalm 19:7-11

Introduction:

A.  Psalm 19 is one of the most powerful chapters of the Bible answering the question: “Is there a God?”

B.  Last week, we saw “Seeing God in Creation.”

1.  Both the heavens, which declare the glory of God, and the earth, which declare the handiwork of God, are proof positive that all that we see are designed by God!  Some like to use the words “Intelligent Design” so as to declare “a god” without recognizing the “True God!”

2.  The Glory of God, the Handiwork of God, and the Knowledge of God are found in the entirety of God’s Creation.

C.  The Second Visible Thing that shows God is the Bible.

1.  As Creation identifies perfect design which requires perfect Intelligence—i.e., God—God’s Word identifies perfect design which identifies who that intelligent God is.

Psalms 40:7  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume (bulk) of the book (biblion) it is written of me,

Hebrews 10:7  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

2.  In the completeness of the Bible we see the glory of Jesus Christ.  “In the volume of the book” Book – biblion: from which we get our word Bible from.  The completion of the Word of God bound complete into one book.

Hebrews 10:7  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume (bulk) of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

The Glory of God is found in its fullness or completeness of the Word of god as it identifies and glorifies Jesus Christ.

4.  The Handiwork of God is found in the completed Bible’s unity and perfection.

2 Timothy 3:16-17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  (17)  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The most amazing book in the world is the Bible that you hold in your hand.  Written over 1600 years by over 40 different human instruments who, for the most part did not know each other or what each other wrote, gave us the completed canon of Scriptures in perfect unity!

D.  Tonight, I want to briefly share what the Word of God says about the Word of God and its benefits to man!

E.  I will keep it simple because it is simple.

Psalms 19:7-9  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.  (8)  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.  (9)  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

F.  Thee are 3 sets of 5 in our verses:

a.  5 Names – Law, Testimony, Statutes, Commandment, Judgments.

b.  5 Attributes – Perfect, Sure, Right, Pure, True and Righteous Altogether

c.  5 Benefits - Converts the soul, making wise the simple, rejoicing the heart, enlightening the eyes, Produces fear of the LORD

G.  Now, let us look at them together.

1.  Law of the LORD is PerfectConverting the Soul.  Salvation and the Word.

a.  The Perfection of God’s Word. Proverbs 30:5-6  Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.  (6)  Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Decalogue or Torah in particular and the complete Canon of Scripture – practically.  To rightly divide the Word of God which is to be Taught.  To teach the Laws of God which are absolutely correct.

The Word of God has withstood every attack over thousands of years that man can devise while maintaining its integrity: its beauty, its unity, and its perfection.

b.  The Product of God’s Word.  Converting the Soul.  Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

1 Peter 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Conversion turns man to holiness and a proper relationship with the Lord.

2.  Testimony of the LORD is SureMaking Wise the Simple.  Wisdom and the Word.

a.  The Truth of God’s Word.  John 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

b.  The Trust of God’s Word.  John 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Proverbs 1:2-4  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;  (3)  To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;  (4)  To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

The Bible will make the ignorant and unlearned both wise and learned.

In an ever changing, totally confused world, we have an Anchor that holds fast.

3.  Statutes of the LORD are RightRejoicing the Heart – Mandates or Authority of the Bible is right.  Rejoicing and the Word.

a.  The Justice of God’s Word.  God’s Word is just in its equity.  Rich or poor, royal or common, male or female get equal justice.

b.  The Rejoicing of God’s Word.  Rejoicing is a result of obedience.  God’s people love God’s Word!  They rejoice when they read it, when they hear it, and when they do it.

4.  Commandment of the LORD is PureEnlightening the Eyes – Collective of law, ordinances, and precepts.  The Word of God is to be Obeyed.  Illumination and the Word.

1 Peter 1:25  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

a.  No Error to defile it.  Incorruptible is what Peter called it.

b.  No sin to pollute it.  In Him is no sin at all and Jesus Christ is the Word of God.

c.  The Word makes clear the spiritual eyesight as it cleanses and enlightens the darkness of the soul.

5.  Judgments of the LORD are True and Righteous – Judgments or Verdicts – The Word of God is Right in its justice and rewards.  Warning and the Word.

a.  Choices have warning. God instructs us through the scenarios of the Bible as to right and wrong.

James 4:17  Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

b.  Choices have consequences.  God instructs us of the consequences of right and wrong choices.

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
