Three Visible Things of God - Part 1

 Temple Baptist Church - 11-5-2023

Psalm 19

Introduction:

A.  Psalm 19 is one of the most powerful chapters of the Bible answering the question: “Is there a God?”

B.  There are many who reject the knowledge of God because they do not want there to be a God.  Verses 2-6 of Psalm 19 show the knowledge of God in creation is available to all races, all languages, everywhere thus it is to be either accepted or rejected.

1.  These reject authority because they are heady, high minded, and lovers of self.  God is ALL authority because He is Sovereign.

2.  These reject accountability because they are Humanist.  God is ALL knowing because He is omnipresent.

3.  These reject recompence and hell.  God is both Judge and the Final Judge.

4.  Their rejection is because of their love for self and sinfulness.

5.  If that is who they are, then they will never come to the knowledge of the truth because to reject the 3 Truths found in these verses is to.

C.  Three ways to know God in verses 1-14.

1.  By Nature in God’s Creation.  Verses 1-6.

2.  By Revelation in God’s Word.  Verses 7-11.

3.  By Experience in God’s Grace.  Verses 12-14.

D.  Three ways to see God in verses 1-14.

1.  In the Sky we see His Work that reveals His Glory.  Verses 1-6.

2.  In the Scriptures we see His Word that reveals His Goodness.  Verses 7-11.

3.  In the Saints we see His Walk that reveals His Grace.  Verses 12-14.

E.  Tonight, I want to look at the first 6 verses of Psalm 19.  We can KNOW God in creation, both the heavens and the earth.  To reject the knowledge of God in Creation is a willful act as Creation explodes with the necessity of design. The glory of a divine Creator.

The Evolutionist is baffled by the truth of nature, both of the heavens and the earth, by the absolute perfection that is found which cannot be a result of explosion—which causes chaos, randomness—which causes chance, or evolution—which involves accident.  “All around in God I see.”

Romans 1:18-22  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;  (19)  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them (In them, not to them); for God hath shewed it unto them.  (20)  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:  (21)  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  (22)  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Psalms 14:1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Psalms 53:1  To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

1.  Verse 1.  The heavens declare the glory of God!  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.  Order instead of chaos. Explosions have always manifested themselves in chaos, not perfection.  We observe the universe through telescopes.  Hubble has been in orbit around our earth for years.

a.  Our second heaven is astronomical in its size.  Scientists tell us that the seeable universe is some 93 billion light years in diameter.  This is not the end of the universe as they claim that the universe continues to expand faster than light or 186,000 miles per second.  The fact is that it is not expanding, they just develop better telescopes that can see more of it.

b.  By the estimation of these scientists, there is approximately 3 sextillion stars in the universe and no two stars alike.  That is 3 followed by 23 zeros which, by their calculations, is more stars than grains of sand in our entire world.  Some poor old scientists spend their lives on Mrytle Beach counting, I guess.  Our Milky Way galaxy is said to contain approximately 100 billion stars.

c.  I believe that they are right.  Psalms 147:4  He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

Isaiah 40:25-26  To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.  (26)  Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

1 Corinthians 15:40-41  There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.  (41)  There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

d.  God made it big enough that it could only glorify Himself.

Genesis 15:5  And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

Genesis 26:4  And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

2. Verse 1.  The earth declares the glory of God.  The firmament His handiwork (God was and is good at it).  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.  The observable earth is seen in many ways.

a.  We see God through the Microscope.  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.

If the vast size of creation doesn’t impress us, then maybe the infinite smallness of creation will.  The invention of the telescope led to the microscope which led to the electron microscope.  With these we can see the seemingly invisible parts of the observable earth.  Adams with their electrons, protons, and neutrons.  If the vastness of the universe does not impress us, the smallness of earth’s creation should inspire us.  We can see molecules.  Creation is built with molecules.  In one teaspoon of water, there are an estimated 9 octillion, 940 sextillion molecules.  Once again, I will rely upon such statistics as I do not have enough time left here on earth to count them.

b.  We can see God through Physiology. Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.  Our bodies are made of distinctly different materials as you cannot take a liver and substitute it for a heart; you cannot take a kidney and substitute it for a lung; you cannot take a pancreas and substitute it for a brain; yet, in their diversity, they make up the whole.

Psalms 139:14-16  I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.  (15)  My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.  (16)  Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Our eyes are miniature TV cameras, our ears are miniature grand pianos, our voice boxes are a self-adjusting, built in PA system, our skin is an amazing heat pump that is both heat and AC, our bodies have app. 30 trillion cells with each having 43 chromosomes, of which 23 are reproductive, along with each cell having 3000 to 39,000 genes (the seeds of inheritance) and each with a DNA string that would take 500 volumes of 100 pages each to describe it.  One human molecule can contain 758 atoms of carbon, 1203 atoms of hydrogen, 195 atoms of nitrogen, 3 atoms of sulfur, 1 atom of iron, 218 atoms of oxygen.  Our brain contains 10-30 trillion brain cells (with me residing on the lower range) connected to 10-15000 other ones with each containing one bit of information.

Man’s body contains a spirit, the seat of our emotions, that can love or hate, rejoice or sorrow, hope or despair, have satisfaction or frustration, elation or despondency, mercy or vengeance, pride or humility, courage or severity, pliability or nobility, meanness or gratitude, envy or goodwill, steadfastness or vacillation, zeal or lethargy, righteousness or unrighteousness, independence or dependence.  It is with the spirit that man is God conscious.  Our liver has over 500 functions to keep us well.  The list could go on and on.

1 Corinthians 15:39  All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

Sorry anthropologists but there are no intermediate species (half man, half ape).

c.  We can see God through observing Nature.  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity

Genesis 1:31  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

We see the great seas and the wondrous dry lands.  Earth’s beauty is beyond human comprehension as we see the mountain heights, the valleys that are lush and green, the prairies with their endless beauty and bounty, the deserts that often blossom like a rose, the waterfalls, and beautiful flowing rivers.

We see the plant life in all its perfection (even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed such) with each diverse plant having seed within itself that bring forth after its kind with no hybrids in nature.

1 Corinthians 15:36-38  Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:  (37)  And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:  (38)  But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

We see all of the animals, fowl, fish, and creeping things.  Each bringing forth after its kind and none without a function to keep the ecology of the earth stable.

d.  We can see God through the Periscope.  The seas.  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.

The water of the earth covers about 71% of it.  There is one global ocean which man has divided into different parts:  Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Southern or Antarctic.  Along with the global ocean, there are many seas.  The global ocean averages 2 miles in depth while the deepest part of the global ocean is the Mariana Trence which is app. 36, 037 feet deep or 6.8 miles.  97% of the earth’s water is found in this ocean and 80% of the ocean has never been mapped and remains one of God’s great mysteries.  There are 226,000 ocean species that have been identified with an estimated 90% of species not yet discovered or observed.  Molecular Cohesion keeps the oceans and seas with their boundaries that God has set.  If the waters of earth leveled, it would cover the entire earth to a depth app. 1.5 miles.

The oceans and seas of earth are God’s great water purification plants.  King Solomon recorded the water cycle.

Ecclesiastes 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

The salt of the seas or oceans mixed with the turbulence makes the greatest washing machine ever known as it allows the impurities of water to remain while the sun evaporates the purified water and brings in inland in the form of rain; the rain soaks into the earth to renew both underground rivers and springs along with fill the rivers which carry the dirty waters back to the sea.  The perfection and beauty of the water cycles as the sun draws purified water from the seas, the clouds bring them in to us and drop the rain, all rivers run back to the seas.  The waves continually oxidize the water.

Jude 13  Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame ….

Man never gets tired of the seas on earth as they are a never changing ever giving part of planet earth.

Life under the seas is a world unto itself with untold multitudes of life with most not yet discovered.  The beauty of the waves as the tides come in and go back out twice each day draw millions to the ocean’s shores to watch the endlessness of its beauty.

e.  We see God through the Gyroscope of Earth’s Ecosystem.  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.  Gyroscopes are used to balance great ships.  God’s creation is perfectly balanced.

Every animal and every plant on earth is essential to the health of the earth’s ecosystem.  In nature, we find balance as the plants and animals do the jobs that God intended the to do.  Plant life provides both food for the earth and also the oxygen, through photosynthesis, that is necessary for life.  They take the carbon monoxide that we exhale and release oxygen that we inhale.

The checks and balances of animal and insect life:  bats and birds keep insects in check; large fish eat smaller fish; worms are eaten by frogs; frogs are eaten by snakes; snakes are eaten by hawks; and the beat goes on.  Animals supply meat for man.

Everything on earth is essential and nothing on earth is wasted!

f.  We see God through the Kaleidoscope.  Perfect Unity in Absolute Diversity.

Every bird, every animal, every tree, every flower, all grass beautifully designed.  So different in patterns, designs, colors, shades, hues, shapes, so as to perfectly blend together to give us this amazingly beautiful earth on which God placed us. Four seasons to enjoy because of the changes made.  God said that it was very good, and I agree whole heartedly with Him.
